Orthodontics for children and adolescents

Mixed Dentition Orthodontics is orthodontic treatment between the ages of 7 and 11 when children have both adult and baby teeth. This age is very important because it is an age where the growth of both dental arches occurs, and proper future development of the airway and skeletal systems is determined. If the teeth and jaw relationships are incorrect, the child may exhibit the following signs:

  • Crowded Teeth, worn teeth from Grinding
  • Unbalanced Face and Jaw
  • Mouth Breather, Snoring
  • Scoliosis
  • Headaches, Migraines

The treatment is as follows:

  1. Bite Opening- composite on lower deciduous molars
  2. Brackets and Wires on Adult Teeth
  3. Serial Guidance of the Remaining Adult Teeth
  4. Finishing and Retention
  5. 2 phase treatment over 2 - 4 years

Braces for all ages

The benefits of treating at this age are overwhelming. Children do not mind wearing braces between 7 and 11. They do at 13! This treatment captures the growth of the jaws. It leads to a proper development of jaws, skeletal system and an open airway. By starting orthodontics at 13, all the benefits are lost!
